My Review:

First of all, I did not finish this book. It was just not my taste. So I’ll be honest. I was trying to read this book for awhile and I just could not get into it. I do blame myself for not reading the first book in the series, which might explain my confusion with what was going on. I totally would’ve read the first book in the series, but it was unavailable at my local library and I did not have the cash to purchase another book. Christmas, you know?

Anyways, I have to admit the writing was a little dry. That really threw me off, and not in a good way. It also felt extremely formal and detailed, which I do like mostly, but I feel like it went a little overboard at times.  I really tried hard to keep on reading, but I just found myself dreading it.

What really made me close the book was a sudden unrealistic scene, which (highlight with your cursor because of spoilers): * Because Margret was chasing Harrison, he suddenly picks Gertrude up (because she gets a stitch in her side) and runs with her. * Like what? It does mention that he read romance novels and know what the ladies like…. but that literally just did not match his character nor make sense, from what I read so far. I honestly feel like the author was forcing the “romance” between them…

At this point, I decided to be fair and rate the book three stars. It was not horrible, but not something I could read right now. My goal for this year is to read the first book in the series, along with the 0.5 novel, and possibly come back to it at some point. Maybe after a few months? If I choose to do so, I’ll probably come back and update this review. 🙂

Anyways, I also wanted to mention that the cover was just beautiful! ❤

If you’re interested, I discovered that the author did a Q&A with Bethany House here. 🙂
